Bitter

Against her mother’s wishes

The little girl snuck downstairs

And took a candy from the jar

Sweet and sour were her favorite

She put one in her mouth

The sweet taste overwhelmed her

She grinned at her small rebellion

But the candy went sour much faster than usual

She squinted her eyes at the taste

She waited for it to fade

It never did.

So she spit it out

Hoping the bitter taste would leave her

It never did.

I am a junior Theatre Performance major with a double minor in English and Film & Media Studies. I am seeking an internship where I can develop my skills as an editor, as I would like to find more permanent employment as an editor or copy editor post-graduation.

As a Theatre Performance major, I am an excellent candidate to work with creative fiction, as I understand characters and how they develop. I have written and produced several plays.

As an English minor, I am skilled in copy editing and working with formal, academic writing and research. I am in the process of having research published (expected publication around Thanksgiving).

As a Film & Media Studies minor, I am prepared to work in a world that increasingly demands multimedia production. I have released several original albums of music, been in several films, and produced many more multimedia projects for educational or personal purposes.

My prior employment has given me the skills to thrive in any professional environment.

I started and operated a small business as a private vocal coach, individually handling every aspect of my operation.

I worked for several years with an outdoor excursion company and became the youngest member of management ever hired. I was responsible not only for my employees and for day-to-day operations, but for the lives of a dozen children in a high-stakes environment.

I've worked as a copy editor and writer for an independent graphic design studio for over four years, so I have extensive knowledge of proof-reading and working on professional writing with complex content. As a Writing Intensive Tutor, I have learned how to work with writers to help them develop and communicate their ideas without imposing my own. These skills– in conjunction with the practical, professional experience I've gained in other positions– have prepared me for a career in editing.
